It isn’t difficult to keep creativity alive when it’s my air in which to breathe . I wake up in the morning with an idea ,a word ,a note I hear , ,a feeling , I see a color or a symbol , Most or any of these become part of a grander picture that go into my art .. Read more>>

Pattern dictates my life. We are surrounded by visually intriguing, recurring designs in nature, ranging from simple to intricate. Being outside surrounded by rich natural color invigorates my creativity. Light and shadow play a huge part in the patterns that I see. My ambition is to reflect these natural designs in my screen-printed textiles and provide a glimpse of my everyday experience. I appreciate the unique beauty of objects in their natural state that are often overlooked by most others. Read more>>

I was fortunate to grow up in a household where creativity was not stifled. Even as a kid, I found that the more I created the better I became at it and that was extremely fulfilling and exciting. I attribute the initial focus of my creativity to my relationship with the arts in high school. I attended a school in which the teachers saw the potential in the students, sometimes before the students were aware of it themselves and then set out to nurture that potential. Read more>>

It’s interesting because I don’t actually think you can actually kill creativity. I think you can ignore it, or neglect that side of yourself for a while. But inherently, we are all creative animals. I like to think of my creativity as a river flowing through my body headed towards the ocean of my brain and any blockages are like dams along the river. But to get rid of a dam, all you have to do is move aside stones and fallen logs. It doesn’t take forever, it just takes patience. When I sit down to write, I imagine the fluidity of my creativity and that my intrinsic ability to ideate is my most natural state and I let it all go on the page. Read more>>

Otherwise, I literally go straight from bed into my self-care routine by flossing, brushing my teeth, and showering (said to enhance creativity and activate the right and left brain). All of these simple routines are opportunities to start the day by slowing down and being present to what I am doing. Ohh and I always make the bed. There should probably be a book called Zen and the Art of Bed Making. Read more>>

I found it over the years one of the best ways for me at least, to keep creativity alive is change within my art, I have to consistently change styles and mediums every so often. First to challenge my intellect, second to challenge my skills and third to drive desire. We can not be creative without the desire to do so. I’ve always found it strange…the painters, who stick within one style their entire career for me that would be maddening.  Read more>>

I learned that the best way to stay creative is to write. WRITE WRITE WRITE! Writing allows me to stay focused and maintain a continuous flow of creativity. Every story builds my momentum to the point that when the timing is right, I can then move forward with planning the production. Typically, the story that excites me the most, is the story that I am most compelled to bring to life. Read more>>

What continues to spark creativity I believe is unique for every one of us. For myself learning to embrace the need NOT to milk creativity at every moment was truly liberating. Working in the creative industry there’s a pressure to always be producing and that pressure gives a false urgency. When I stopped mentally beating myself up for not coming up with more creative ideas that lifted burden and created space for my best creative ideas to start occurring. Read more>>

Listening to music every day inspires me – if I hear something I really like, especially something new that I haven’t heard before, it motivates me to make music that I love. I also think it helps that we meet up and rehearse a couple times a week, even when we don’t have a show coming up, because it keeps everyone in check to practice, and just being in a musical environment can help spark creativity. I can easily experience dips in motivation and creativity, so it’s very important to keep myself engaged and with an objective, whether small or big. All work to keep my creativity engaged and encourage me to try new angles, perspectives, moods, lighting, etc. Read more>>

As a multi-hyphenate, I like to keep my creativity alive by always trying new things. Since I seem to be both left brain and right brain, sometimes those things are artistic, but creativity can be found in organizational and critical thinking pursuits as well. I guess the key is to keep busy and recognize that sometimes you’ll experience phenomenal success, and sometimes you’ll fail – but regardless of the outcome, you’ll always be growing and learning. Most recently, I’ve fallen in love with fashion all over again and remembered why I started. Our art is influenced by our life experiences. Since we spend most of our free time outdoors – getting back to nature helps us keep our creativity alive. If you follow our shop you will see we are always adding new designs. We usually get our best ideas when we travel. We have visited 35 of the states in the US as a family, 15 to go! We took a family vacation up the North Shore of Minnesota and we left with so many sketches and ideas. Then a year later there are half a dozen shops on the North Shore carrying those very items. The more we travel the more we feel our creativity. Read more>>

I feel I have learned to keep my creativity alive by continually working to allow myself to be sensitive. Our culture is so fast paced and riddled with little anxieties, it is very easy to shut off, focus on one’s self, and simply try to survive the day. I’ve found that as I continue to be sensitive to the world around me, I am able to absorb various stories of ache, trial, success, love, despair. You end up carrying all the weight, which can bury you – but the secret for me is to create space and time to be alone.  Read more>>

Creativity for me has always been an escape and a way to get out my emotions. It’s not always easy for me to express how I am feeling in a conversation but I can get it out in a song or a script. I also recently realized how important creativity is to me and how it helps me feel truly fulfilled in my life.  Read more>>

How do I keep my creativity alive? I keep my creativity alive in many different ways. I spent 2021 building out and designing my studio, Jolene’s Place! (Which is available to rent on Peerspace!) Doing that I got to use every corner of my creativity(and my art degree.) I got to design, paint…everything. It truly felt like a giant art installation piece for me.
