We recently had the chance to connect with Talin Gureghian Hall and have shared our conversation below.
Talin, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
Perhaps not surprisingly, at ALSO, our clients have always chosen to work with people over companies – And vice versa. After 20 years, as we pivot towards a new direction, we welcome their loyalty and are looking forward to embarking on this shift with them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I started ALSO two decades ago to bring a unique approach to creative communications to our clients, at a time when the rules of branding were constantly evolving. This approach was always rooted in a combination of powerful minimalism and a compelling emotive. We call it Brand Artistry.
Today, we are focusing on the ‘Artistry’ of it all. We are championing designers and artists who tell interesting and vital stories. Whether for brands, who are aware that important signals come from experimenting, or for individuals who want to collect the works of artists we are championing, the aim will be as it was when we first started: To make people feel connected, think ‘Wow’, and say ‘I love that’.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Many moments, living in different parts of the world – Beirut, Los Angeles, San Francisco, the UK.
But London shaped me the most. Living and working in design there during in the mid-to-late 1990s, at the hight of Cool Britannia, meant being part of cultural movement characterized by excellence in all things creative. It was a unique place and time, yet to be repeated.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
Not quite changing my mind about one thing, but becoming laser-focused on just about everything.
In time, you adopt a singular outlook, without any distractions.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
They know who they are.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
No regrets.
