Tamara Venher of Galloway on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tamara Venher. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Everyone searches for a way to reconnect with themselves. For me, that path has always been creating something beautiful. As a permanent makeup artist, I’m deeply inspired by the faces of women—their features, their character, their natural uniqueness.

I see permanent makeup as an art form where my machine becomes the brush, and the human face becomes the canvas. It’s more than just a treatment; it’s a creative dialogue between my vision and someone’s natural beauty.

This process gives me energy. When I see the final result and the happiness in my clients’ eyes, I feel that I’ve created something meaningful—something that helps others feel confident, and helps me feel like myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tamara, and I’m a permanent makeup artist specializing in creating soft, natural-looking results for brows, lips, and lash enhancement. What makes my work unique is my focus on subtlety—delicate pixels, gentle shading, and an overall effect that enhances rather than changes a client’s natural beauty.

I’ve always been fascinated by the structure of the face, especially brows. Originally, I planned to become a brow artist, but when I applied to beauty school, I discovered the world of permanent makeup. The idea that I could “paint” lips and create shape and color with such precision immediately became my passion.

Today, I’m truly happy with my choice. I love creating results that feel soft, feminine, and effortless—results that make clients look refreshed and confident while still feeling like themselves. I’m constantly improving my technique and working on expanding my brand with a focus on high-quality, natural permanent makeup.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
My view of the world has been shaped by many experiences and by many people—both good and difficult. Each of them, in their own way, taught me important life lessons. After finishing my studies, I went through a challenging path trying to find my place and build my career. I learned that some people may lie, make promises they can’t keep, and create false expectations. But there were also kind, genuine people who helped me grow and realize my potential.

Today, I’m grateful for that journey because it led me to where I am now. I work at the wonderful Gold Lotus Artistry in Galloway, NJ, a place where I feel valued and inspired. I am proud to work under a truly amazing owner who saw the artist in me and trusted my vision.

Every step—every person—has shaped who I am today, and for that, I’m thankful.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Yes, I do remember a time when someone truly listened to me.
It was during one of the hardest periods of my life, when I was trying to build my career and working multiple jobs just to stay afloat. I was pouring all my energy into finding clients, improving my skills, and trying to survive financially. I kept all my emotions inside, and it slowly started to eat me from within.

I felt like nothing was working, like all my efforts were going into a void. I’m a very creative person, and I’ve always known that I can’t thrive in strict, traditional work environments. But at that time, everything around me felt heavy, meaningless, and I couldn’t see a future for myself without this profession.

The first people who truly listened—and understood—were other artists in the PMU community. They saw my struggle and offered support, guidance, and encouragement. And most importantly, my husband listened to me in a way no one else could. He felt that I was shutting down, withdrawing from everyone, closing myself off emotionally. He didn’t push or pressure me; instead, he gently helped me open up again, step by step.

Their support reminded me that I wasn’t alone, and that my voice, my feelings, and my art still mattered.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is staying connected to my roots and the artistic standards I grew up with. Being from Ukraine, I closely follow Ukrainian beauty trends and the evolution of permanent makeup there. Ukrainian artists are incredibly talented, and their approach to soft, natural, detailed work has always inspired me.

In my own practice, I combine the techniques I admire from Ukrainian masters with the methods I’ve learned in the United States. I also appreciate the precision and advanced approach of Asian — especially Chinese — PMU techniques. This mix allows me to create my own signature style, blending softness, clarity, and innovation.

I love continuous learning. I take inspiration from Ukrainian resources, follow American professional groups, and explore new techniques from artists around the world. Protecting this cultural blend — staying loyal to my heritage while embracing global artistry — is something I value deeply and refuse to compromise.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
In 7–10 years, I see myself as a highly skilled permanent makeup artist who knows every detail, every nuance, and every challenge of this profession — someone capable not only of creating beautiful work, but also of guiding others who are just beginning their journey.

My path hasn’t been easy. As an immigrant, I had to rebuild my life from zero — learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, figuring out how everything works, facing document issues, and navigating jobs where some people lied or made empty promises, while others genuinely helped me grow. Each part of this journey shaped me and taught me resilience.

Technically, I’m constantly exploring different styles and methods. Permanent makeup evolves so quickly, and I hope that in 7 years, I’ll have enough expertise to teach confidently and to share everything I’ve learned — including the mistakes and the lessons that shaped me.

I also have dreams beyond brows, lips, and lash enhancement. I want to expand into more advanced areas, such as areola restoration, which is deeply meaningful to me, and even corrective work on the body — helping people feel better in their skin, not just on their face.

What I’m doing today — studying, practicing, learning, rebuilding myself — may not pay off immediately. But it’s creating the artist, and the person, I want to become.
