Vero Garcia shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Vero, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I’ll always choose integrity over the other two. For me, it means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, and that’s something my parents taught me from a young age. It’s a value that’s shaped who I am, because without integrity, intelligence and energy don’t have much meaning.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a bookstagrammer, and I’ve been sharing my love for books and reading for a little over six years now. I really enjoy coming up with fun and creative ways to talk about stories, whether it’s through reels, challenges, or just sharing what I’m reading. It’s a fun way to share my love for books and connect with other people who love them too.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
There have been many moments that have shaped how I see the world, and it’s hard to pick just one.
The first was when my dad passed away unexpectedly at a young age, it showed me just how fragile life can be.
The second was the day my son was born; becoming a mother changed me completely in the best way, and one of my greatest joys is seeing him grow up. And the third was when my mom passed away, also young and unexpectedly. That was a real call to action for me, and about a year later I started my bookstagram account.
Each of these moments taught me to value life and embrace what I love.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to be patient and kind with herself, to trust the journey, learn from challenges, and cherish the people she loves and the small moments. Life can be hard, but she’s stronger than she thinks and capable of more than she knows.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building Free Libraries in my community and turning it into a movement. We’ve already set up four, but there aren’t many here, and I want to create even more spaces where people can access books freely, spark a love of reading, and bring the community together. I know it will take time, but it’s something I truly believe in and am dedicated to seeing grow.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I absolutely could. I’ve learned that the value of giving your best doesn’t always come from praise, but from knowing you did something with care and integrity. Whether it’s being there for the people I love or working on projects I care about, I try to put my heart into everything I do, even if no one notices.
