Where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience is often the x-factor that differentiates between mild and wild success. The stories of most of the wildly successful folks in our community have exhibit an extreme degree of resilience and we’ve come to believe that if our goal is to help our community achieve great outcomes we have to help build resources and knowledge around how one can become more resilient.

I think it’s safe to say I had a challenging few years as a teenager and into my early 20s. I was working hard to penetrate the music business while learning from some of the industry greats. I was trying to discover myself and figure out who I wanted to be…. it took quite a while. Actually, I’m not done yet, but I think I’ve just about figured it out. My resilience comes from my mother, Laila. Throughout her life, she confronted hardships that were truly exceptional. Despite the enormity of the challenges she encountered, she never resorted to making excuses for what she couldn’t accomplish. I always have a hard time writing about myself and the things that have happened to me. My life has been a series of you can’t make this sh*t up events. If I had to pick the biggest three that have helped me develop my resilience: 1. Opening the mail with my mom, only to find that it’s the online relationship my father carried on with a woman in another state, telling her she died and he was left to take care of the girls.
