Where does your optimism come from?

Optimism is the invisible ingredient that powers so much of the incredible progress in society – from entrepreneurs and investors to artists and creatives who believe in something and are optimistic enough to risk their time, money, and reputation. We asked some of the most optimistic folks we know where they think they get their optimism form.

My optimism comes from seeing the extraordinary potential my generation has and the unique perspective and tools we bring to address the challenges of the world.

I spoke to a man at a restaurant a couple of days ago who told me, “Teenagers are lazy these days. They sit on their phones, and are extremely lazy and spoiled.” Read More>>

Being a mindset coach as well, I understand the importance of selecting your response to outer stimuli. The only control we have in our life is how we choose to respond to events. Nothing else. We can either look at life as happening to you, or for you. Read More>>

It comes from the reality that my life is not bad. I am grateful for everything and everyone that I choose to surround myself with. There are people who did not sleep in a bed last night or had any dinner. I am grateful to the universe that I have food and a roof over my head. It’s easy to stay positive when you think of the things that are right with your life. Read More>>

How important is it to dream? If we can back our dreams up with written and attainable goals, then we have a realistic opportunity to reach anything within our minds put into motion. How important are mentors? We can all learn from others and then instill their best attributes into our own personality. My first professional career type job was with a worldwide brand. They had an excellent training program. How important is education? It was my good fortune to land a dream type job right out of college. Read More>>

This is such a great question! To me, there are two parts to optimism: it is hope in the future and confidence in a successful outcome. The first part, hope in the future, is something that simultaneously grounds me in the present moment, while also “pulls” me to soar into the future. Here’s what I mean. Read More>>

My optimism comes directly from my faith in God. Growing up in rural Louisiana in a town called Bunkie, I was raised in a family where faith in God transcended everything. It didn’t matter the denomination or organized religion. At the end of the day, all that mattered was whether you had faith. For me, I have faith that God granted me this gift of music. For that, I’m eternally grateful as it has not only opened doors, but has also served as an emotional outlet. Recognizing that it’s a gift, I know I can not waste it. Music is meant to be heard and connected to. Because of that, I don’t care how many “no’s” or “ghosted” replies I endure. I was meant to play music. Read More>>

My optimism stems from a chain of experiences that have refined the way I look at things today. In retrospect, I see those experiences from the past as “training camps” that helped to create the version of me you see now. I have allowed circumstances to introduce feelings of defeat, inadequacy, and unworthiness. But those feelings didn’t support the way I wanted to show up in the world. Realizing this set me on a path to figure out a way to ground myself in who I am. Read More>>

Optimism is like oxygen- it is essential to life, it allows for you to be proactive in changing a situation that is less than ideal. At an early age I witnessed how a negative mindset could completely change the experience of your reality. This is also part of the approach with astrology by focusing on the positive side of their chart and transits. Read More>>

Our optimism comes from the inevitable force that is beyond desire. It comes from the necessity to create, not just “art” but Life, love & everything in-between. Whether we like to think so or not, we chose these bodies to carry us through our individual & collective journeys so , with that being said, it’s important to maintain our fuel in every(healthy) way possible. In our family, from early ages, we were plagued with tragedies, from the loss of my father in an industrial accident when I was just 5 mths old to burying my mother before her time. Through it all, my family has always alluded to me landing on my feet. As I grew up and had children of my own, I now see it is unwavering faith that plays the biggest part in my optimism. Daily, things change that we no control over. Wars are breaking out, death and taxes are still a thing, however, if the people that come into my circle are happier when they leave than I have spread the love of God to them. In turn, filling someone else’s cup has always had the amazing ability to fill mine in turn. Read More>>

My optimism stems from the fact that I am a dreamer. I’ve always been a dreamer ever since I was a young child. I would always dream about beautiful things and imagine things much prettier than they are in real life. I sometimes sit and wonder why I dream that the upcoming events or situations are much better than how they are in actuality. Then, I realize that the hopeless optimist in me seems to take over the whole core of who I am.  Read More>>

My optimism springs from various sources. The excitement I receive from clients, as well as the reciprocal energy shared with both clients and colleagues, plays a significant role. Seeing ideas come to life in real time fills me with a sense of wonder and fulfillment. Positive engagements and the formation of friendships that arise from project collaborations bring a sense of joy and connection. Moreover, the ability to contribute to environmental improvement and enhance Houston’s green and ecological footprint serves as a constant source of inspiration. Lastly, creating spaces that bring happiness to children and pets is deeply rewarding. All these factors combine to fuel my optimism, passion, and commitment in my work. Read More>>

My optimism? I don’t really think about it, but it must come from a dark place. It’s like shining a flashlight into the darkest parts of my soul and then daily I choose to focus on the light instead of the vast darkness. Optimism is transactional. The price you pay is disassociating from all negativity and a consequence of that can be you become detached from ur reality. Truly it’s not as great as you think. Theirs a balance one must find and you find that through intentional experience in moderation of all emotions. Read More>>

‘Optimism is a magnet that draws good unto itself.’ ~ Unknown This bit of inspirational truth has been in a little frame on my desk for decades. A boss saw it on my desk and had the office assistant put the words on my screensaver. She said this message personifies me. I love that. Really all we have to do is look up and realize that there are solutions to the questions and problems we face. Paying attention, I see that what I really need always shows up for me. It may not be what I think I need, but it is always what I need. Life is choices. I choose to be optimistic. And Happy. Read More>>

My optimism comes from an internal knowing and belief that everything will work out the way it’s supposed to. We all face challenges in life, but how we react to those challenges is what shapes us. It took years for me to cultivate this mindset, but I have learned the importance of trusting everything will work out for me. Read More>>

My optimism stems from a strong support system growing up. As I mature and grow, I tend to reflect on how I got here and ultimately is due to the love I was shown. The love and empathy that was shown to me at an early age carried through and with me. I also think my optimism stems from a place of lack. Being an African American, overweight woman, I had to find pieces of joy to carry me through, especially when the world places us in all of the labeled boxes that don’t necessarily pertain to our innate spirit. Finding joy in the little things and having a great support system ultimately is what keeps my vision at a full cup always. Read More>>

I think about the concept of “digging in” a lot. If I can just keep going as an artist, regardless of growth or specific goals, I’m still doing it. Everyone has to adapt as they grow, and I’m no exception, but if I can just keep my heels dug into what I already began then I will achieve longevity. It’s not a magic solution or major inspiration, but it gets you through the day to day. Read More>>

My optimism stems from a combination of factors. Firstly, I attribute it to my innate disposition and personality traits that incline me towards a positive outlook on life. Additionally, my optimism is nurtured by the positive experiences I’ve had, which have instilled in me a belief in my abilities and the potential for favorable outcomes. Supportive relationships and social connections play a crucial role as well, as they provide encouragement and emotional support. My optimism comes from always wanting better for my community, chosen family and myself. I have spent the majority of adolescence stagnant from growth and when you’re coming from somewhere where everyone wants you stay down, you kinda just want to do the opposite. I have to constantly develop, master and re-learn the skill of showing up for myself when others simply can’t. That’s not necessarily anybody’s fault as we all are going through something however, I had to learn to convert that built up energy into becoming the woman I wanted to be through passionately creating art.  Read More>>

I always believe that, “there is always tomorrow”. For example, people generally tend to underestimate the cost and time needed for photography projects. This means that even when bad things happen, being optimistic you can overcome all adversities. Read More>>

Optimism is full of layers and it begins with knowing that life is by no means perfect. Despite the circumstances I was raised in as a child, my family was and still is encouraging, welcoming, and loving. Those affirmations were part of the building blocks for optimism. It comes with appreciating the small things in life such as a stranger smiling at me as we cross paths walking down a street. The more you can be observant, open your mind to conversation, differing viewpoints, walks of life, and the kindness others show in the most unbeknownst ways, the more you see the beauty and opportunity all around you. This, I believe, is the culmination of optimism. Read More>>

My optimism has been a work in progress, but I can attribute much of it to being in the network marketing space for so long. I was incredibly blessed to have mentors in the 22 years while affiliated with my previous organization. I joined that company in a season of my life when I wasn’t so optimistic. Even after many years in the company, listening to positive material and people telling me I could do something great, it still took years before I began to feel confident in my ability to succeed. Somewhere along the way, seeds were planted, one crisis piled onto another, I learned a lesson or two, and I realized that my success depended upon my thoughts. That’s when things began to change. Simply put, it comes from relationship with Jesus. There’s a lot of freedom knowing that the God who created the world, also has me in his hands. Life has also thrown a lot of curveballs at me, and through them all, I have been able to come out in a better situation. Don’t get me wrong, we shouldn’t live life in the clouds, and think everything is sunshine and rainbows, but I do know that I have the power to respond positively to any given situation. Faith. I don’t mean that in a religious sense, although, for some people, religion is a great source of optimism. Personally, it’s about having faith in myself and my abilities, as well as trusting the process of life. Trusting that the universe always has my back and that no matter what, everything is always working out for my highest good. Even when things don’t work out the way that I want them to, I try to focus on the positive. I like to see failure as an opportunity for growth — a stepping stone rather than an endpoint. If something doesn’t work out it’s because it wasn’t meant to, or perhaps, it was to teach me a valuable lesson. Read More>>

Will it happen? Do I have what it takes to make it happen? What if it does not happen? These types of questions do their best to enter a person’s mind repeatedly as an individual pursues a goal. Nevertheless, I know one thing that can stop questions of this nature from coming into a person’s mind: optimism. When an individual is optimistic, the previous set of questions are altered to echo in the mind like these: When will it happen? How will the greatness in me make it happen? Where will it happen? My optimism comes from a foundation of faith, which drives me to rise above obstacles and conquer challenges. By reading the Bible, taking the time to meditate, reflecting upon my daily happenings, or expressing myself through writing, I build a foundation of faith that drives my optimism. Read More>>
