Back around 2020 and 2021, I gained a bunch of weight. I had never weighed that much before. I couldn’t fit a good amount of my clothes and my shoes were fitting tighter. Between 2021 through half of 2023 I would lose weight and then gain it back. I kept going through that cycle until June 2023. I was finally able to keep the weight off because I had to really tap into self-discipline. Read more>>

I often get asked, “How is it possible for you to do all the things you do (full-time job, photography, consulting) while still being present for your family (wife and two kids) and yourself (self-care)?”For the longest time, I would respond, “Your guess is as good as mine.” More recently, I really started to delve into the how, which ultimately came down to self-discipline. Inspiration is a luxury and not a necessity. Creating a pathway to a goal should not be predicated on a particular feeling; instead, it should be based on a desired outcome. Waiting for those bursts of inspiration to stimulate you is a form of procrastination, a brilliant display of perfectionism. And in my opinion, perfectionism is the absolute killer of progress. My self-discipline was birthed from an inner determination to be unquestionably the best version of me I can be. This is what drives me. I’m disciplined because I always strive to be better than I was the day before. Read more>>

My self-discipline comes from the fear of being average. From the fear of not accomplishing my goals, dreams, living short of my potential, and letting myself down. After a while of living in this head space of operating from a place of fear, it ultimately has become the status-quo for how I live my life. Read more>>

Self-discipline came for me from struggling with anxiety, health, and low confidence. Then as I failed towards a result I found a coach and fitness. Fitness and self-discipline are two of the most important ingredients for a happy and healthy life. When we are physically fit, we have more energy, feel better about ourselves, and are less susceptible to diseases. And when we are self-disciplined, we have the ability to set and achieve goals, resist temptation, and persevere in the face of challenges. Read more>>

Well my self-discipline started as a young child growing up. My father was very strict when it came to academics, he pushed me to the limits. If I was having trouble in any area as far as my studies would go, he would pay for a tutor to assist me. He would always tell me that a B is great, but I know that you can achieve a A. He would tell me that he knew that I could do it. He would always encourage and motivate me to do and be my very best. Read more>>

Where do I get my self-discipline? Imagine, you’re 5 years old, handed a 5 gallon bucket and sent out into a field and told to fill the bucket with beans. You go out picking, making sure not to pick the ones under-ripe, and fill your bucket. You drag it back to the front of the field, it feels like it weighs more than you. You bring it to your dad, and he smiles and says “thank you’”, takes the bucket and hands you an empty one, “now go fill this one”. And you do. That’s how I was raised. I grew up on a farm. I grew up in a disciplined household. My parents were clear in their expectations of me but they also never forced me to do any activities I didn’t want to do. However, once I made a commitment to something they made sure to hold me accountable for seeing it through until the end. That mindset of honoring my commitments followed me into adulthood and is a key part in how create music and run the business. Read more>>

It comes from my fear of failure, from my collection of dusty failures eyeballing me from the mirror every day, from missed opportunities, from starting over after being gutted by infinite rejections. It comes from the Redwoods where I grew up in Humboldt County. It was passed down to me from my tense, overburdened, beautiful, sharp mother yelling at me to “pay attention!” because I was always elsewhere—daydreaming about the next Bowie record I needed, the next Dr. Pepper flavored chapstick I was gonna steal, which class I was going to cut and the lie I would tell to not get caught. That’s a great question. Thank you for asking. I would say my self-discipline boils down to my natural desire to connect with others through stories, and my supportive parents. Because of this mix of nature and nurture, looking back and connecting the dots, I may have always been predestined for a career in the film and television industry. Read more>>
