Growing up with out a dad and losing my mom to cancer at age 16 – I had to step up at a young age. You can call it a chip on my shoulder, survival or just “life moves on”. I realized at a young age, I didn’t want to end up being the kid who never left town and still lived in somebody’s basement. I’ve taken this self discipline and added a heavy cup of optimism. I appreciate the opportunity to answer this question, as it’s very dear to me! Having run marathons all around the world, it’s easy to look at all the success that I’ve had in life and conclude that I must be some sort of a naturally-gifted athlete. But I’m someone who fits into the “Zero-to-Hero” character trope, which is the basis of the journey I describe in my book “Savage Resilience: Conquer Adversity and Be Your Own Hero”. Read more>>

“No one is going to beg you to (act). If you want to do it, you have to want it more than you want to breathe,”- James Franco in Actors Anonymous, discussing the desire to be an actor. Early in my photography career, I learned that my success depends entirely on me. Discipline can be a very threatening word to some as it may imply a punishing undertone to the reasons behind actions. However, I have always viewed discipline as a way of life and a path to greater freedom and joy. Growing up, I experienced a significant amount of trauma and chaos. The examples set for me were not healthy, and I lost my parents to this lifestyle at a young age. Read more>>

Discipline versus motivation is a huge topic in the wellness community. There are days I feel no motivation, sometimes I honor that and blow off a day or moment. But most days, even when not super motivated, I am a disciplined person. I’m not sure where it comes from and I don’t think it really matters. For me, the key is keeping my mind and soul on my priorities and designing daily structure/habits that support the life I want. Read more>>

My self discipline comes from the will I built from within at an early age. Between the ages of 11-14 years old I navigated my first very dark bout of life. After enduring unspeakable trauma, my brain and body chemistry changed rapidly. I went from an easy going, happy child, to a teen that attempted multiple suicide attempts. During these years although I did not know it at the time, I became reliant on the very little light I had within and focused on surviving. Read more>>

My strong sense of self-discipline stems from witnessing the unwavering work ethic of my immigrant parents. Arriving in the United States in 1999 when I was just three years old, I was surrounded by their dedication from a young age. My father tirelessly put in long hours, never once expressing a complaint, while my mother shouldered the responsibility of raising two young children alongside a part-time job. Read more>>
