Where does your self-discipline come from?

One of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. We asked some of the most inspiring creatives and entrepreneurs where their self-discipline comes from.

I have two parents who have followed their goals heavily in their lives. They have taught me through their actions that happiness is cultivated through doing the things you love, surrounded by the people you love. My father is an award-winning attorney in Connecticut and also leads a rock band. Music was always important to him, and throughout my life he has supported me in more ways than I can count from driving me to NYC weekly as a child for voice lessons, to driving to Boston for all of my concerts in college. My mom (now retired) was a beloved teacher for years, known for her “Birthday Song,” which she would lovingly sing/dance to her middle school students. She has also directed/choreographed/performed in theater since I was born, which ignited my passion for the stage. Read more>>

My self-discipline comes from my determination for success. I was put me in a situation where statistically, success was low, however I truly believe anything is possible so I started my journey of self development by reading books, and watching YouTube videos instead of scrolling on Instagram or watching Netflix. I get my self-discipline by knowing what I want in life. I know I have to be better than the person I was last year or even yesterday; I always wanted to be that “youtuber” or that person that makes a good impact in his city. I wanted to be able to give back to my community and to my city.
