Meet Eric Thompson Jr

We were lucky to catch up with Eric Thompson Jr recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I believe in life we all have many purposes. Finding our own unique purpose is a never ending journey. One of my main passions in life is to help others recognize their power. The search to uncover my purpose is really achieved by just living life and following my passions. Life is about improvisation and going with your flow, in my opinion. My past pain has helped me along the way. I created books that were inspired by the many trials and tribulations that I have faced in my life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an Author, Entrepreneur, Public Speaker and Youth Empowerment Coach. All of these titles allow me to be my true creative self. I’m also a Spoken Word Poet and that allows me the opportunity to grace stages world-wide and share my voice and unique perspective on life. Being on stage brings me pure ecstasy and exhilaration, it’s a feeling I can hardly explain. I have my own publishing company, Eternal Royalty Publishing, where I have currently written and self-published four books (Blame It On The Music, Emotional Black Guy, Positive Affirmations For Boys, & Positive Affirmations For Girls). My books allow me to be seen and heard by many people. All of my books can be purchased on Amazon. They also allow me the honor of helping others along their life’s journey. I gain the most excitement inspiring and motivating the youth. I work with a local organization here in Detroit called Aktive Minds Foundation. Aktive Minds allows me to be a mentor, sports coach and public speaker to the youth. Seeing the kids improve their basketball and social skills on a daily basis brings me so much joy.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The number one quality that I have is my resiliency, life has not been easy for me but I have persevered. The second quality I have is my confidence. I won’t act like I’ve always had extreme confidence in myself, but I have truly embraced who God created me to be. We’re all uniquely made and it’s our job to shine as bright as the Sun. Last but not least my selflessness is one of my favorite qualities that have helped me in my life. I realize everything isn’t about me, the more people I can help along the way, the more blessed I’ll be as a result. My greatest advice to others would be to study and truly get to know yourself. By doing so, it will allow you the ability to show up as your best and most authentic self every single day.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
For the past year I have been going to therapy and it has truly helped me with the way I process my many emotions. In the past I was an emotional wreck. I would shutdown when I was overwhelmed and it would lead me down a spiraling path. I’ve also started the practice of Qigong and yoga over this time period. With yoga and Qigong I have been able improve my body, mind, and spirt. Working on controlling my breathing has led to more mental clarity and focus in my life.
