We were lucky to catch up with Pipe Yanguas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Pipe, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I see it as the only way to live. When you look around in life and evaluate everything around you, you will see a lot of beauty but there is always also a lot of tragedy and injustice. I learned to be grateful for what life is offering me at any point in time. Life can always be better, but it can also be worse, and as I navigate the journey of life I choose to be optimistic and enthusiastic. I choose to be working and living with a purpose and maintain that line of thought and discipline all throughout.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As an artist I work in two lines of businesses. One where I am a photographer of passions and document people’s lives in images. [ www.thephotobiographer.com ] Whatever someone’s passion is in life I involve it in the photoshoot I do for them. I always use natural lighting and a scenario that is common to them or dear to their hearts. I keep photographing each client over time, at least once per year and create for them a photobiography in the form of a book. This coffee table book gets printed every year thicker and larger with all the images we have done until the date and that is how it tells the story of their lives through images.
As a visual artist my language of composition is dots and lines and is rooted in the concept of connectivity. [ www.dotsandlinesworld.com ] I have mainly worked with painting, but also photography, video art, metal installations, sculpture, digital art and muralism. To me, each dot represents a person and each line the link between person to person. The lines represent everything that lives within us and around us, as well as the interpersonal relationships, ideas, projects, or experiences that connect us all. We are all connected. My work is an introspective invitation to acknowledge the power of connection. Together we are infinite.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Organization and constancy I think are key to develop any concept. To make a plan and start following it I think is the best way to start anything. The plan may change or vary at some point but as you work you will make the necessary adjustments. Constancy in keeping up with your message or your purpose is the other key factor that will give you results. You have to keep on working and creating at all times, practice will keep on making a better version of yourself at any point in time as we journey into excellence.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The wheel of life by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and LOVE by Leo Buscaglia. Those two books shape the way I see and confront life. You have to be determined to achieve your dreams and you have to be kind. Kindness to all around you but also to yourself. Be enthusiastic. Have a purpose in life. Never stop dreaming. Trust your gut. Be kind.
