Meet Han Nguyen

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Han Nguyen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Han, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

When it comes to challenges related to mental health, it’s super important to always remember that you are the only one that’s there for you at the end of the day no matter how many friends, family members you have that are there for you, no one will show up for you more than you would for yourself. I always will do something for my mental health even if it’s as small as getting yourself maybe a meal or drink you’ve always wanted to try or take some time and unplug from social media and really take that time for yourself.

Words of affirmation is one of my favorite ways to overcome any hardships!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Han Nguyen, I am an entrepreneur and a small business owner, I recently just reached my 6th year owning my small business, “The Honey Bar” where I mainly specialize in Lash Extensions!

I first went to Esthetician School to become a makeup artist since I have love for makeup but once I saw how many avenues I can take becoming an esthetician, I fell in love with Lash extensions after getting my lashes done for the first time. Once I graduated school, I went and took my first lash class in 2018 and I’ve been obsessed with them ever since.

I recently just moved back to Denver this year from living out of state for 2 years and I am now working on rebuilding my own lash extensions product line. When I moved back, a lot of my teaching equipment and supplies had gotten damaged from shipping them back to Denver so that is my next goal and once I’m done, I’m so excited to share it with all of my clients, friends and family!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the 3 important things that helped me become a successful business owner is to continue learning, practice daily, and to never give up on yourself or your business. Even on the worst days.

You have to constantly keep practicing. It’s unrealistic to expect to have the experience of a person who has been in the industry for 10 years in 1 day. I’ve met so many young entrepreneurs who are beginning their journey just give up because of one bad client or one bad day.

What helped me practice daily was having discipline. I set a couple hours aside a day to practice anything I needed to be better at, wether that was hand making my lash fans and putting them in a separate container to collect or just learning more about product knowledge to achieve the best retention possible for my clients! All the time and effort you put into your business will always show, no matter what.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

As important as it is to pour your entire energy into your greatest strengths. I think it’s also extremely important to pour energy into your weaknesses too. The parts we aren’t the strongest in, need attention too, which would then in return make you more confident in how to handle certain situations when you come across them.

For example, one of the things I needed to work on was being confident in my communication skills when it comes to a client who is unhappy. When a client is upset, it’s up to us as a business owner to take accountability in where we may have messed up at and right our wrongs. Once you show your client how you can handle a situation, it serves clarity to the situation and in return, a client would be more willing to come back and if not then that is okay too!
