Losing your job is painful and unfortunately the current economic conditions have led to many layoffs and firings in companies large and small. However, we’ve learned though thousands of interviews over the years that job loss is one of the most common catalysts for massive life improvement. I overcame getting laid off by creating brands and developing businesses that allow me to still generate income without the need of a boss. Brands that consist of being a Mobile Hairstylist, a Digital Product Designer, a Social Media Influencer, Skincare Specialist and a Herbalist. I turned my hobbies into my salary ,so I can have a great time and still make money. My business owner journey is movie itself. All I have to do is film, edit ,share and go with the flow. In 2023, I experienced a layoff and it was one of the biggest gifts/shifts over the past couple years that has profoundly and positively impacted my life. A year and two months later, the layoff led me to publishing my first book, performing my first keynote speaking gig, has re-centered creativity and care for myself, allowed me to launch my own consulting business, and led me on a path to improving the quality of my thoughts, increased my fitness progress and consistency, and to grow closer to who I authentically am through so many travel experiences. I have been laid off 3 times in my career, all at various income levels and professional levels. The first layoff was eye-opening. When I was first told about my pending layoff, I was given 6 months’ notice and figured I had plenty of time to find another job before my last day. As a 10-year professional with a MBA, I was sure I would find a job quickly once I started looking. I never had a problem before and figured this time would be no different. As my pending last day approach and I did not find a job yet, my last day was extended as other colleagues, quit, relocated, or took other jobs.
