We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Frida Cossio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Frida, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem through a mix of challenge, curiosity, and learning to trust myself. Growing up between Mexico and the U.S., I had to navigate a lot on my own—new schools, new friends, new cultures. It was especially hard in middle school, which is such a formative time. I felt like I didn’t fully fit in anywhere. I was a mix of both cultures, and being “different” was the last thing any new teenager wanted to be.
Over time, I learned to become independent of others’ approval. Since I didn’t quite belong to one world or the other, I started finding a sense of identity in the things I loved. I threw myself into different school activities—cheerleading, mural painting, arts and crafts, cooking, choir, even nail art classes. These helped me build confidence little by little.
By high school, I felt more grounded. I still felt different, but I began to embrace that difference. I explored interests like writing, fashion, and beauty, and in college at UT Austin, I really found my stride. It was my first time living away from home, and I began pursuing my passions seriously—working in PR while earning my PR degree, and diving into industries I loved like fashion, tech, and music. I even started a fashion blog, which brought unexpected opportunities and taught me a lot about showing up for myself.
So much of my confidence comes from trusting myself—even when things are uncertain—and continuing to follow what lights me up, even when it scares me a little. That’s still my compass. I believe that pursuing your dreams, especially the ones that feel slightly intimidating, is one of the most freeing things you can do.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I recently became a Senior Account Executive at a PR firm here in Dallas, and I’m really enjoying supporting and learning from new clients and their projects. It’s an exciting time as I grow in this role and help bring fresh ideas to life.
Personally, I’m still building my Instagram account focused on food, drinks, and travel. I love discovering new flavors and sharing unique experiences with my community. I’m also excited to travel to new places this year, which will inspire new content and stories.
Balancing my growing PR career with my passion for exploration and storytelling keeps me motivated and inspired every day.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are passion, a strong work ethic, and self-trust.
Passion keeps you motivated and excited about what you do, even when things get tough. A strong work ethic ensures that you show up consistently and put in the effort needed to grow. But just as important is learning to trust yourself—being willing to try new things, even if you’re afraid or don’t have all the experience yet.
My advice to those early in their journey is to embrace a positive attitude and be open to putting yourself out there. Even if you feel unsure, showing willingness to learn and work hard will open doors and help you grow in any field. Trust that with time and persistence, you’ll build the skills and confidence you need.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was teach me the value of doing the hard things in life. They instilled in me the importance of working hard, being on time, and showing up with consistency—habits that they believed would lead to both success and happiness.
They each moved to the U.S. for different reasons, but their shared purpose was to give their children a better future. That sacrifice is something I will always be deeply grateful for. The best way I know how to honor that is by pursuing my passions and creating a life that I’m proud of—one filled with purpose, joy, and intention.
