Losing your job is painful and unfortunately the current economic conditions have led to many layoffs and firings in companies large and small. However, we’ve learned though thousands of interviews over the years that job loss is one of the most common catalysts for massive life improvement. Sometimes, the most unexpected detours lead to the most fulfilling destinations. My layoff happened in 2018, but its impact has rippled through my life, shaping who I am today. At the time, I was working as an IT Business Analyst—a career into which I’d poured 14 years of effort. If I was to be perfectly honest, there were very few aspects of this job that I truly enjoyed but there I was, just doing what was expected of me every day and living for days off and vacation periods. I was only able to come through and cope through Faith. My faith is still tested daily. I worked at my place of employment for 10 years. It was a loss that I had to grieve. FOr the last 3 y3ars it became toxic and my health started being affected. God gave me Security is Kee and showed me many things but fear still lurked. I felt in my spirit it was going to happen and the day before I got fired , I removed all of my personal belongings from the office. That Friday Morning by 8:15 am I was fired. It was a sense of anger , fear and sadness for a moment but then a sense of peace came over me. I went back to the doctor a few weeks later and the first thing my doctor said to me was WOW YOU LOOK GREAT, WHAT AREYOU DOING? I told her I lost my job. She said I am sorry to hear that but you look great and your blood pressure is awesome. This firing allowed me to put all my time and energy into my business with no distractions. This, was definitely a life altering event in my life. Most of my career was spent as an interior designer. I’m very artistic and I loved my job! In 2008 we had a recession and everything changed. My job was eliminated and I desperately tried to work within my field. In a 2 year time frame I went through multiple different jobs, drained my savings and had to allow my 15 year old son to live with his father. I lost my home during this time, as well. Eventually my daughter invited me to accompany her to Utah where she was beginning a new position. I remained there for 2 and 1/2 years working as an assistant manager for Pier 1 Imports.
