Meet Amina Cush

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amina Cush. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amina below.

Amina, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Building my confidence really began in my late twenties, when I began to dial into my intuition, purpose, and gifts. Confidence, I’ve come to realize, comes from truly believing in your own agency and the superpowers you hold to navigate life in the direction you choose. For a long time, I relied heavily on external sources and advice, thinking that was the key to success. But the moment I took the time to understand who I truly was—what brings me joy and what I’m passionate about—was when my confidence grew exponentially.

We often look outward for validation, but I’ve learned that everything we need is already within us. Confidence doesn’t come from relying on others to tell you what to do; it comes from trusting yourself to craft a life that resonates deeply with who you are. When I embraced this belief, I found the courage and clarity to build my business, raise my family, and move forward with a deeper sense of self-assurance. It’s the belief in oneself that truly unlocks the potential to create a life that feels both authentic and fulfilling.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the Co-Founder and CEO of Nurture Postnatal Care, a company I launched out of a deep passion to democratize postpartum care and ensure that every birthing person receives the support they deserve in the critical postpartum period. My experience with late-term pregnancy loss in March 2022, and subsequently navigating my own postpartum recovery illuminated the vast gaps in care during such a critical time, and I felt called to address this issue in a meaningful way.

Nurture Postnatal Care is designed to offer comprehensive, culturally competent postnatal care through in-person recovery retreats, 1:1 virtual coaching, and a marketplace that connects families with trusted providers and products. What makes Nurture special is the intentional focus on inclusivity and accessibility. We ensure that marginalized families, often left behind in traditional healthcare systems, have access to the resources they need to heal and thrive after childbirth. I’m particularly excited about the upcoming launch of our postpartum care marketplace this November, which connects new parents with vetted providers — whether that’s lactation consulting, mental health services, or postpartum nutrition.

In addition to our marketplace, we’re launching our in-person care retreat in Westchester County, NY this fall to connect directly with our community and offer high-touch luxury postpartum recovery support and education for new and expectant parents.

We are growing and I’m excited about our plans for expansion. Moreover, we’re constantly exploring new ways to make postpartum care more accessible for all families. My mission is to create a future where postpartum care is as prioritized as prenatal care, and every birthing person feels supported, seen, and valued throughout their journey.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, empathy, and a willingness to embrace continuous learning.

Resilience: Life is full of unexpected challenges, and resilience has been my anchor through the toughest times. Whether it was navigating personal losses or the hurdles of entrepreneurship, resilience allowed me to persevere and keep moving forward. For those starting out, I recommend embracing setbacks as learning opportunities. Build your resilience by setting small, achievable goals that lead toward your bigger vision, and celebrate each milestone along the way.

Empathy: This quality has been fundamental in both my personal and professional life. Empathy enables you to connect deeply with others, understand their needs, and create meaningful solutions—in my case, providing compassionate postpartum care. To develop empathy, practice active listening and put yourself in others’ shoes. Volunteering and community involvement can also broaden your perspective and enhance your ability to empathize.

Continuous Learning: The world is constantly evolving, and being open to learning has allowed me to adapt and grow. Whether it’s acquiring new skills for my business or personal development, continuous learning keeps me curious and innovative. For those early in their journey, I suggest investing time in education—formal or informal. Read widely, seek mentors, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to acquire new knowledge.

My advice to anyone starting out is to nurture these qualities deliberately. Surround yourself with supportive people who have an expansive growth mindset, and don’t shy away from challenges—they’re often the greatest teachers.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely! I’m always excited to connect with individuals and organizations who are passionate about transforming the postpartum care space, and advancing maternal health. We’re committed to building a diverse network of collaborators who can help us push the boundaries of what’s possible in this space. We’re especially looking to partner with healthcare providers like doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, mental health professionals, and nutritionists who align with our mission of offering holistic, culturally competent care to birthing families.

Additionally, I’m eager to collaborate with women-owned and BIPOC-owned brands that offer postpartum-related products or services. Whether you specialize in wellness, personal care, or sustainable postpartum products, we’re interested in amplifying the work of businesses that align with our values of inclusivity and accessibility. Our upcoming marketplace will feature carefully curated, trusted products, so this is a great opportunity for those interested in reaching a wider audience of new parents.

If you’re a wellness professional, provider, or brand looking to partner, I would love to hear from you. We believe that collaboration is key to driving real change in postpartum care, and we’re always open to working with like-minded individuals who share our vision of making comprehensive postpartum support accessible to all families.

If you’re reading this and feel like we could make a positive impact together, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me at hello@nurture-care.co, or connect with me on LinkedIn.
