We were lucky to catch up with Brionna Futrell recently and have shared our conversation below.

Brionna, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

We all grapple with Imposter syndrome, especially when you’re called to achieve something significant. It’s common to feel unworthy and unqualified, leading to discouragement and the question, “Why me?” I recently confronted these same feelings. In June 2023, my vision for my digital marketing agency began to take shape, and now, a year later, I find myself partnering with one of my very first clients. This achievement was incredibly exciting, especially after a year of self-doubt and wondering if I could make it happen.

For much of that year, I let feelings of inadequacy hold me back, procrastinating and hesitating to fully immerse myself in my business. Everything changed after a conversation with a successful entrepreneur who challenged my mindset. He asked, “You don’t feel good enough, but people with far less experience are succeeding—so why not you?” That moment was a turning point. I realized that instead of dwelling on my perceived shortcomings, I needed to shift from “Why me?” to “Why not me?”

There is only one Brionna Futrell, and there is only one of you. What is meant for you is uniquely yours, and no one else can replicate your unique approach and perspective. While I still experience imposter syndrome occasionally, I remind myself that if I weren’t capable, I wouldn’t have been given these opportunities. So, I choose to embrace the role I’ve been given with confidence and pride.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

At Elevation Marketing Enterprises LLC, my mission is to empower beauty entrepreneurs to elevate their brands and expand their clientele within the digital space. With hands-on experience in the beauty industry through my own lash business, The Doll Lab, I bring a deep understanding of the passion and dedication required to succeed. While I adore the artistry of applying lashes, my true enthusiasm lies in crafting and executing dynamic marketing campaigns. This dual passion inspired me to transition into digital marketing, where I now focus on transforming beauty business visions into reality with innovative and tailored strategies.

Connecting with clients is the most rewarding part of my work. Having been in the same position of launching a beauty brand, I empathize with the excitement and challenges involved. My consultations often feel like engaging, insightful conversations with a friend rather than typical business meetings. I take pride in nurturing my clients’ growth and celebrating their successes as if they were my own.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three key qualities that have significantly shaped my journey are open-mindedness, determination, and faith in God. Embracing optimism, regardless of the situation, has been a powerful tool in overcoming life’s challenges. I firmly believe that optimism is a crucial life skill, one that everyone should strive to develop. While it can be tough to maintain a positive outlook in difficult times, each challenge offers valuable lessons. Instead of viewing obstacles as burdens, consider asking yourself, “What is this teaching me?”

Determination has also been a driving force in my progress. It involves continually envisioning the life I envision for myself and affirming that, with effort and persistence, it is achievable. When my motivation wavers, I remind myself of my family and future goals, which fuels my resolve to keep moving forward.

Most importantly, having faith in God provides me with a profound sense of peace. I trust that everything is working in my favor, even when circumstances seem challenging. When things appear to be falling apart, I believe they are aligning to create a greater masterpiece.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My friends have been an incredible source of inspiration and support throughout my journey. Their unwavering motivation and guidance have kept me focused and driven, and I’ve learned so much from them. Witnessing their own personal successes inspires me to believe in my potential. I deeply admire their intelligence and generosity in sharing their knowledge, experiences, and skills with me. Words can hardly express the depth of my gratitude and affection for them and the profound impact their support has had on my life.

Whenever I feel overwhelmed, tired, or frustrated, there is always someone there to lift me. For me, even the smallest gesture of support can make a significant difference. My community, which includes family, friends, old acquaintances, clients, prospective clients, and even strangers, plays a crucial role in motivating me. Their encouragement helps me recognize my potential and has shown me how impactful a supportive word or gesture can be. Their belief in me has illuminated the power I hold within myself and reinforced the value of uplifting others.
