Charles ‘Ico’, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As a Christian, my work ethic is deeply rooted in the belief that everything I do should glorify the Lord. A verse that stands at the core of my beliefs is Colossians 3:23-24, which says: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” This scripture inspires me to give my best every day, viewing my work as an extension of my faith and a form of worship.
The parable of the talents also deeply influences me. In this parable, the Lord rewards those who are faithful and responsible with the gifts and talents entrusted to them by God. It motivates me to fully utilize the abilities and opportunities I have been given. With this mindset, I see EVolution Parts not just as a business but as an opportunity to steward the talents and resources God has placed in my care. He provided an opening in the market, and it is my responsibility to be faithful and work diligently to make the most of this opportunity.
Lastly, Proverbs 14:23 states, “All hard work brings a profit,” underscoring the value of diligence. These principles guide how we operate, make decisions, and engage with our customers. By striving for excellence, I aim to reflect God’s glory in the marketplace and ensure that my efforts align with His purpose for my life and my business.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Charles Ico Sánchez, and I am the founder and owner of EVolution Parts, an online business dedicated to providing high-quality parts for electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide. Our mission is to support the transition to sustainable transportation by ensuring EV owners have access to the parts they need. We serve customers across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and more.
What excites me the most about EVolution Parts is how it brings together my passion for technology and innovation. Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I was inspired by my father’s entrepreneurial journey with SERTELSA, the largest telecommunications company in the country, and later with Zero EmisiónRD, the pioneer EV dealership promoting sustainable energy. These experiences taught me the value of creating impactful solutions. When I saw the global demand for EV spare parts, I knew there was an opportunity to build a business that could support the shift toward sustainable mobility.
At EVolution Parts, we focus on providing a seamless customer experience and supporting the global EV movement. We believe in the power of sustainable energy and the role EVs play in reducing our carbon footprint, which drives us to constantly improve our offerings and expand our reach. We’re actively working to grow our catalog with more parts for brands like Tesla, Rivian, Hyundai, and Chevrolet, while also expanding to cover more brands. Additionally, we’re forming partnerships with national and international shops, garages, and collision centers to ensure customers receive brand-new, OEM parts every time.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Adaptability and having an open mind to change have been crucial. What I initially envisioned for EVolution Parts versus what it has become are two completely different things. I had to learn to accept change and adapt to the various circumstances and challenges that arose while building the business. This flexibility allowed me to pivot when necessary and take advantage of new opportunities that came my way. For anyone starting out, I’d advise embracing change rather than fearing it. Be open to evolving your vision as you gain more experience and insights.
Taking risks has also played a significant role in my journey. EVolution Parts exists today because I decided to take risks, starting the business while I was still in college. Every major leap in the growth of the business has come with its own set of risks. My advice is to be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Don’t let fear hold you back, but make sure your decisions are well-informed. Trust your instincts and, for me, trusting in God’s guidance has been essential in navigating the uncertainties.
Finally, showing up every day and staying consistent has been a non-negotiable part of my journey. Regardless of the challenges, I made sure to work towards the betterment of EVolution Parts daily. Some days, the progress might seem small, but I believe that consistency compounds over time. For those starting out, remember that success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of small, consistent efforts over time.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My dad has been the most influential person in my life and my journey with EVolution Parts. He’s my hero and my motivation, not just because of his success but because of how he got there. He came from nothing and, through sheer hard work and determination, became a successful businessman and an incredible father. I look up to him every day, not only for what he’s achieved but for the sacrifices he made for our family. I’m driven to be even more successful because I want to honor the legacy he built for us.
Everything I’ve done with EVolution Parts has been shaped by his influence and expertise. He’s been a pioneer in the electric vehicle industry with Zero EmisiónRD, and his deep knowledge of EVs has been invaluable to me. The guidance he’s provided, from understanding the technical side of EVs to navigating the complexities of the business world, has been a cornerstone of EVolution Parts’ growth.
