Meet Diego Summers

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Diego Summers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Diego with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

Growing up, my parents always emphasized the importance of discipline and the value of hard work. I was always told that if you’re going to do anything, to do it to the best of your ability. This mantra has been a staple of who I am and what my purpose is; to live every day to the fullest and ultimately strive to be the best version of myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hello, my name is Diego Summers and I am a Mexican-American indie artist based out of Buckeye, Arizona. My musical journey revolves around the vibrant energy of indie rock and the melancholic nature of bedroom pop. Music has always had an important role in my life, to the point where I can associate different periods of time with specific albums and songs that I love. Whether it be through live performances or people I have never met resonating with my songs and melodies, music has shaped me to be who I am today. I love the expression that music gives me and love that through these songs, I can elicit and inspire certain emotions and feelings. Personally, that is what I love about music the most, the ability to say so much and express it not only with words, but through jangly guitar riffs, sparkly synths, and punchy drums. I feel that I am constantly growing and learning more about myself, and each song has an identity of where I’m at and where I’m heading. All while being able to take the listener along the journey with me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My father has a saying he constantly reminds me of that states: “Cree en ti, trabaja fuerte y no te quejes,” which translates to believe in yourself, work hard, and don’t complain. The biggest role models that I have in my life are my parents. I have seen them get through anything and everything, and are the most true examples of how far hard work and dedication can take you: all without complaining and with a smile on their face. They constantly instilled in me I can do anything that I set my mind to and if it weren’t for them planting that seed of self belief, I don’t know if I would have been able to accomplish any of the things that I have done in my life.

My advice to anyone thats looking to start their own journey is those three things; believe in yourself because you are uniquely you, work hard towards what you want to achieve especially when things get tough, and don’t complain about the journey, it’s the best part.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

As an independent artist, you have to be a jack of all trades to be able to keep moving forward and keep progressing. It can be daunting having to tackle so many things at once. My strategy with mitigating with this feeling is to remind myself I’m doing the best that I can, and to prioritize tasks one at a time. We can scare ourselves out of what we love by looking at too much at once and not letting things take their time. I’ve learned that stacking daily wins, striving for improvement, and being patient have helped me overcome being overwhelmed.
