Meet Hope King

We recently connected with Hope King and have shared our conversation below.

Hope, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose shortly after having my son. Being a new mom was hard enough. But I felt so alone and had ZERO support. I was struggling to care for myself and my new baby. While I was pregnant I learned what a Doula was and how they can not only assist you while you’re pregnant but also postpartum. I never wanted any other birthing person to feel alone.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a birth and postpartum Doula. I discovered this passion after the birth of my son. I felt so alone during and after my pregnancy and I made it a mission that my clients would never feel like that. I started my business HopeWell Reproductive Wellness Care during the pandemic after being furloughed like many did.

I offer classes, birth and postpartum support, meal prep, and newborn night care. I also just acquired my own birthing tub and will be offering tub rental packages in August.

I am also a self published author as well. I published a book for poems during the pandemic as well detailing the lessons I’ve learners over my 20’s. I’m proud of the way I was able to describes the highs and lows of every part of the journey. For me, it was truly impactful to write these pieces not only as I was going through them but also as a reflection of growth. “Lessons in Love: And Other Things My 20’s Taught Me” can be found online through Amazon.

I am currently working on an accompanying piece to hopefully come out soon. The memoir will be a more detailed account of the journey through my 20’s and the lessons that brought me to where I am now.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me, I believe that having tenacity, being adaptable and having faith/ trust in the process is what ultimately helped me succeed.

I got married and have my son pretty young. We were homeless for a while and during those low points I have to keep my family together and stable. If I didn’t pull on my inner resilience, losing everything multiply times would have broken me.

I had to constantly pivot and make something out of nothing. Especially when I left my husband. It seems like that was the darkest time. But that’s when I had to lean on my faith and my trust in not only God but also myself.

At my lowest I kept surprising myself in my ability to transition through anything that was thrown at me.

If you are early in your journey make sure you have a strong foundation of faith. Whether that’s in something tangible like your own ability or the creator themselves. But either way you will need to pull on this strength for the dark times. Remaining flexible to change is also key. The only constant in life is change.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone looking to enhance their birthing experience. Someone who is looking for a support companion during the process that will help guide them and be a comforting shoulder to lean on.
