Meet Jim Telli

We were lucky to catch up with Jim Telli recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jim, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My mother. she always told me to complete a task. And there is always something to do!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

A year ago, I came to in a hospital bed after being unconscious for almost 48 hours.
I had a tooth extracted that got infected, developed an abscess which of cutting off my wind pipe. I couldn’t eat, I lost a lot of weight and was hella feverish.
It could have been over.
This lead to me geting an abscess surgically drained/removed.
While in the hospital, I told myself that I would commit to Comedy.
I looked and felt like shit and was skinny af…but I knew what I had to do.
So I started hitting open mics, taking “class” whenever I could(watching more seasoned comedians) going on stage wherever I could.
I kept writing, bombing, improvising and improving.
I’ve performed for black, white, French, Hispanic crowds, met so many great comedians! I’ve opened for Preacher Lawson, I’ve performed not only in South Florida but in St. Louis, Arizona, North Dakota and many more places to come!
I knew since getting on stage the very first time that this is what I wanted to do.
It’s not easy… but it’s what I’m good at.
A lot can change in a few years.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Love, discipline and courage.
Love can come in many forms, it can also be a mindset. Like discipline, it’s a mindset.
And courage to take risks. For the reward is great!

All 3 were and are still crucial on my journey.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

They filled my cup with culture and knowledge. I have been to many place in the world and can speak multiple languages thanks them!
