Meet Kalyani Vaddepalli

We were lucky to catch up with Kalyani Vaddepalli recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kalyani, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Keeping my creativity alive involves several key practices. Since I was young, I’ve been immersed in a creative environment, inspired by my mom’s DIY and artistic projects. For me, creating is a form of therapy, and it’s exciting to be in a field where I can continuously learn and evolve.
I stay inspired by watching YouTube videos and Instagram reels about current trends, which help me stay updated and motivated. Additionally, I find great inspiration from fellow creators—seeing new ideas often sparks my own creativity. I also make it a point to explore different mediums and techniques to keep things fresh and exciting.
Most importantly, I believe that enjoying and loving the creative process is crucial. If you’re not passionate about what you’re doing, it’s challenging to keep the creativity flowing. Regularly setting aside time for creative activities, even if just for personal projects, helps me maintain enthusiasm and prevent burnout. Staying happy and engaged in the process is essential for allowing ideas to flow easily.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Kalyani, the artisan behind “Oven Addict,” a home-based baker in McKinney, Texas.
I specialize in crafting celebration cakes and dessert tables for all occasions. Balancing my life as a software professional by day and a passionate baker by night, I bring a unique blend of skills to my creations.
As a self-taught baker and a mom to a young boy, I thrive on challenging myself by learning new techniques and continually evolving in my craft. For me, cake is not just a dessert but an art form that allows me to express creativity and passion.
What sets “Oven Addict” apart is not only our technical proficiency but also our distinctive, signature style that makes each creation memorable. Our focus on customer satisfaction drives us to tailor each order to meet individual preferences and exceed expectations. We also prioritize using high-quality ingredients to ensure that every cake tastes as good as it looks and for cakes that turn every occasion into a celebration, “Oven Addict” is the delicious choice you can trust.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I believe that the three most important qualities are Confidence, Consistency, and Creativity. Confidence is essential, having faith in my abilities enables me to face challenges head-on and persevere, knowing that I am capable of achieving far more than I might initially think. Consistency is equally crucial; I put all my efforts into ensuring the taste and quality of my final product remain reliable and high-standard. Additionally, creativity is a driving force for me. I believe that creativity knows no boundaries, and every opportunity excites me to continue pursuing my passions and innovating.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

Yes, a significant challenge I am facing is balancing my 9-5 job, my passion for baking, and my personal life, particularly as a mom. Juggling these responsibilities requires meticulous planning and prioritization. My full-time job demands a considerable amount of my time and energy, which sometimes makes it challenging to dedicate enough attention to baking—a pursuit that I am deeply passionate about. Additionally, being a mom adds another layer of complexity. I need to ensure that I am present and supportive for my child while managing the demands of work and baking.
