Meet Kate Dix

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kate Dix. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kate, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Is this a trick question?! I still haven’t managed to overcome imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is something that I experience every single day.

However, while there will always be someone else who is better looking, more talented, wittier or with better branding, I do have peace of mind in the fact that every product I make has been specially developed to bring relief and revitalization to others. This is something that gives me the drive to continue showing up and promoting health and healing even on days that I lack confidence in myself.

If you’re a small business owner struggling with imposter syndrome just know that a) you’re not alone, and b) you can positively impact others even when you have self-doubt.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Oh gosh, where to begin? I first discovered the healing properties of CBD after suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2019. This experience kick started my search for natural solutions to my symptoms and eventually led me to become certified in herbal medicine.

Now, in 2024, I am forging a new path with my own woman owned and operated business. My brand, Field Day Herbals, is my way of turning something painful into something good. Each and every Field Day product has been carefully curated with your relief and revitalization in mind and with the goal of sparking joy.

In terms of something new…We are in the process of a major rebrand, which will hopefully be complete in July 2024! So please give us a visit at www.morefielddays.com or follow us at @morefielddays on Instagram to follow along to see us grow.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1) Problem Solving Mentality: Being a small business owner means wearing many hats and constantly facing new and exciting challenges. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming, but for the most part it’s pretty empowering to experience new issues on a regular basis and learn how to overcome them! If this is the mentality that you take, it can be a lot easier to tackle the unknowns.

2) Humility: See above! What’s more humbling than realizing that you don’t know everything on a daily basis?! My advice? Be humble and make friends with others in the small business community. You might be surprised at how kind others can be if you are open to asking for help.

3) Empathy: My traumatic brain injury (especially because it’s generally invisible to outsiders) makes me see life through a totally new lens. Even if you can’t tell at a glance, many people are fighting their own silent battles every single day. It’s easy to get caught up in our own struggles, but having empathy and understanding for others can be more rewarding than you might think. Some of the best business relationships that I have now, came from small moments of kindness and have blossomed into wonderful relationships.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Asking for help! I like to think that I’m independent, but over the past 12 months, I’ve finally come to grips with putting that mentality aside a bit. It’s been overwhelmingly positive to be encouraged, uplifted, and supported by other small business owners and makers in the wellness space. Moreover, it has created a culture of sharing and a sense of community that allows me to uplift others as well, which is one of the best feelings in the world.
