Meet King Holder

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful King Holder. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with King below.

King, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome has been crucial for me. I realized that most people are more focused on their own lives and insecurities than on judging yours. And for those who do judge, don’t give them any energy at all. Realizing this helped me stop overthinking every interaction. I began to understand that most of the pressure I felt was from myself, which allowed me to focus more on my personal growth.

Another crucial step in this journey was embracing the idea that you have to believe you’re something before you ever become it.

This mindset shift began with setting small, achievable goals and mildly celebrating each success (grateful for progress, but not satisfied). Positive affirmations, staying true to goals, and investing in skill development gradually reshaped my confidence. Once you start to build momentum, that’s when it becomes much easier to believe you’re capable of amazing things.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I run my sports recovery startup called PROCUSSION Recovery. Beyond that, I also write articles for RollingStone.com as a member of the Rolling Stone Council.

I enjoy these things because PROCUSSION allows me to grow a brand and go through the process of learning valuable skills as an entrepreneur. I then use the Rolling Stone platform to share my voice with the world, and help others learn how to build their business, find purpose, and escape their limiting beliefs.

Apart from that, I’ll also be launching some really dope projects this Summer which will be the biggest projects I’ve ever taken on in the realms of content creation & entertainment. Stay tuned!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I’ve found that determination, vision, and a bit of delusional optimism are crucial for achieving success.

Determination keeps me moving forward even when things get tough, while vision helps me stay focused on my long-term goals. Delusional optimism (believing in my success even when it seems unlikely) provides the courage to take risks and overcome obstacles.

To develop these skills, I set clear goals, remind myself of my purpose daily, and practice resilience by viewing setbacks as learning opportunities. Surrounding myself with supportive, like-minded individuals also helps maintain my motivation and optimism.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth has been learning to avoid negativity and not give my energy to those who complain and drain others.

I realized that surrounding myself with constant negativity was affecting my own mindset and productivity. By consciously choosing to distance myself from complainers and energy drainers, I’ve been able to focus more on positive and productive activities. This shift has helped me cultivate a more optimistic outlook and maintain my motivation.

I’ve also become more selective about the people I spend time with, prioritizing those who uplift and inspire me, which has significantly improved my overall mental health and growth.
