We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kyrsten Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kyrsten below.
Kyrsten, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from a very intentional place. I don’t want the gray, heavy parts of the world to overshadow the glitter and magic of being alive. Those things have their time and their place but not in the everyday. There is so much beauty in the everyday, and I choose to protect my ability to see it. Life is short—and sometimes even shorter than we expect—so I’ve learned that perspective is everything. While it’s important to be prepared to handle lifes challenges, it’s just as important to nurture your inner spark.
For me that spark is rooted in purpose! What motivates me, what drives me, how I show up in the world and what I do to contribute to it. Optimism in that sense, becomes something active—it’s not passive or naive. It’s a choice.
When that optimism feels hard to find, I believe you can create it. Optimism often starts outward—believing in others, encouraging them, showing up with light and intention. In doing so, that energy has a way of returning to you. The way we treat others, the way we carry ourselves, and the mindset we practice all work together to shape us and our experiences.
At its core, optimism comes from a decision to see possibility, to create true meaning, and to protect the sense of wonder that makes life feel full for yourself and for others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Everything I do is rooted deeply in community, relationships, and connection. As a local real estate professional, I’ve always believed that this industry is about so much more than buying and selling homes—it’s about helping people step into their next chapter with confidence and intention.
What excites me most is how impactful a home truly is. Where you live shapes your daily life in ways people don’t always realize—it influences your routines, where you shop, how often you gather with friends and family, your hobbies, your children’s opportunities, and even your long-term financial future. A home is where memories are made—both the beautiful and the challenging—and it places you within a community that will support you through all of it.
That’s why I feel so strongly about guiding my clients toward not just a home, but a bright and successful future in homeownership and beyond. My role goes far beyond the transaction. I’m committed to providing thoughtful guidance, valuable resources, and a level of support that doesn’t end when the keys are handed over. These are long-term relationships, where my clients always have someone they can turn to for insight, direction, and trusted connections.
Real estate is constantly evolving, and I make it a priority to stay informed not only on the market itself, but also on the high level financial landscape and lending environment. This allows me to help my clients build the right team around them that can provide the most relevant information to them and their decision making needs. I firmly believe that every market is the right market for someone—it just takes the right strategy and the right people to help them get there, often to a place even better than they imagined.
Looking ahead, I’m incredibly excited about continuing to grow in this space. I have plans to expand my impact by mentoring and training others, sharing knowledge, and helping elevate the level of care and service clients receive across the industry. My overall my business and brand is all about helping people build lives—and communities—they truly love.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most impactful areas in my journey have been communication, organization, and health—each one shaping not only how I work, but how I show up in every part of my life.
Communication, above all, is foundational. It touches every relationship—whether with family, clients, or the broader community. I’ve learned that it’s not just about speaking clearly, but about listening deeply, reading the moment, and responding with intention. The most meaningful communication happens when it’s grounded in compassion, perspective, and preparation—especially in high-emotion moments, whether someone is navigating a challenge or celebrating a major milestone. Mastering communication within yourself first—your mindset, your reactions, your awareness—is what allows you to show up fully and effectively for others.
Organization and attention to detail are equally critical, especially in a field like real estate where there are so many moving parts. These skills create clarity, prevent mistakes, and build trust. Being organized isn’t just about staying on top of tasks—it’s about protecting the experience and outcomes for the people you’re serving. When someone’s future is involved, every detail matters, and I take that responsibility seriously by approaching my work with precision and care.
And then there’s health—something I believe is often underestimated, yet it’s the foundation that supports everything else. If you’re not taking care of yourself, you can’t show up mentally sharp, physically present, or emotionally grounded. In a fast-paced world, prioritizing your health can be challenging, but it’s essential. It’s also not something you have to do alone—whether it’s a workout group, a coach, or a supportive circle, having a “team” around your well-being can make all the difference. Health is not a one-time goal; it’s a lifelong commitment that directly impacts your ability to live fully and serve others well.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to get clear on what truly matters to you. Identify your core values and look for where they intersect with your work and your goals—because that’s where you’ll find both fulfillment and momentum. Revisit those priorities often. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day demands, but taking time to pause, evaluate, and realign is what keeps you moving forward with purpose. Choose yourself, trust your instincts, and believe in your ability to grow into the person your goals require.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a handful of people who have helped shape and guide me—both in life and in business. My broker, my spouse, past leaders, and even members of my community have all played meaningful roles in my growth. There are people I deeply admire and turn to for wisdom, perspective, and support, and their influence has been invaluable.
That said, one of the most important realizations in my journey is that while others can guide you, ultimately the responsibility to grow is your own. You have to make the decisions, put in the work, and intentionally develop the skills, qualities, and knowledge that will move you forward.
Through a lot of self-reflection, I’ve come to see that I learn from everyone around me. Some lessons are profound and life-shaping, while others are quieter—simple reminders of what to do, or even what not to do. Every interaction, every observation, and every shared story offers an opportunity to grow if you’re paying attention.
One of the most impactful relationships you can cultivate is with a strong mentor. The right mentor doesn’t just offer advice—they help you stay aligned with your goals, hold you accountable, and challenge you to think differently. They can illuminate blind spots, expand your perspective, and open your eyes to possibilities you may not have seen on your own. A great mentor doesn’t limit your path—they help you see just how expansive it can be.
One of the best pieces of advice I actively live by is simple: pick one thing. Choose one habit, one skill, or one area of focus at a time, and commit to it fully until it becomes second nature—something so ingrained in your day-to-day life that it no longer requires effort. Only then do you move on to the next. I often focus on one thing in my life and one thing in my business at any given time. It’s not about limiting growth, but about creating sustainable, meaningful progress without overwhelm. One thing at a time, one day at a time—and over time, those small, intentional commitments build a life and business you are be truly proud of.
