Meet Michelle B Griffin

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelle B Griffin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Michelle B, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

We are constantly evolving, or should be, as humans, so putting ourselves out there is a normal process that comes with the feeling of “imposter syndrome.”

You can never control it, but we can contain it. I also think we need to “rebrand” the term. We are not imposters; it’s just our internal wiring warning us, much like a light on our cars that detects something is off. And what’s off is you want more, and your wiring system wants you to remain the same.

I tackle this internal feeling with my external activators: Acknowledgment and Action.

First, acknowledge — face, and feel it. For most, it bubbles up when we’re about to go higher. Don’t run from it. Don’t over-prepare for it. Sure, do some research and talk to others, but the only way to get through it is to do it.

Second, take action; one small step, I don’t care how nano or micro — it’s a positive impression forward that will get you there, and the answers and motivation will keep coming along with clarity, courage, and confidence to that next-level opportunity you seek.

Continually recognize your steps, successes, and even missteps on your quest for growth. You’ll be surprised how far you come, the opportunities that show up, and the people you meet and impact.

Imposter syndrome is just a warning signal for growth. You are not an imposter; you are evolving.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Michelle B. Griffin, a certified personal brand strategist, marketing mentor, and PR coach. As the founder of Standout Women, I write, speak, and teach female experts to get visible, grow their influence, and “own their lane” for next-level opportunities. The Own Your Lane™ method is based on The Brand GPS,™ my signature personal branding and PR framework, and the subject of my forthcoming new book.

I believe that visibility equals opportunities and that visible women transform lives. Yet, too many women who desire more play small, remain silent and on the sidelines. To change this, I launched Standout Women Academy, a thought leadership training platform for women in business. We teach female experts and entrepreneurs to build their personal brands, expand their reach, grow their businesses, and impact more lives by leveraging the power of visibility. Our mission is to equip and elevate women so they not only are seen, but stand out with their transformative work and ideas. Learn more at StandoutWomenAcademy.com.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Self-awareness, curiosity, action, and connection are essential to continually evolving, taking action, and building relationships.

For example, I have a hard time with perfectionism, leading to procrastination and waiting for permission, as some of us think the answer will come from someone or something “one day.”

We wish and wait, waffle, and burn precious time—wasted opportunity and potential. I know this painful lesson firsthand, and I never want another woman to feel hidden and held back. That’s why my mantra and mission are “Put Yourself Out There and Make Your Unique Mark On The World.”

The power of visibility and “owning your lane” is transformative — allowing us to courageously and confidently show up and share our unique gifts to impact others.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Three Books

First is “The Game of Life and How To Play It” by Florence Scovel Shinn, a book recommended by a fellow female entrepreneur in 2016. I have the dog-eared copy on my desk and listen to the Audible version daily. It’s my daily mindset vitamin.

Second, “10x Is Easier Than 2x: How World-Class Entrepreneurs Achieve More by Doing More,” which sounds like a hustle culture methodology, so I resisted it for so long. The title doesn’t do it justice. I’m not kidding when I say it transformed me when I read the first few chapters. After being recommended for a year, it came to me at the right time, and now I can’t stop recommending it.

Third, writing my books has transformed me to learn and evolve. Books change lives, and we all have the power to share our unique perspectives and experiences to transform others. My second book will be published later this year, and I plan to continually write books, speak, and teach to transform the women I’m here to support.
