Meet Rasika Ashwin

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rasika Ashwin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Rasika, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I am a freelance illustrator & an art educator to kids hence my whole productive day is creative but with my current priority of raising an infant, I do keep myself creatively active in margins of life. My baby’s naptimes are mine to relax-draw & take care of myself. In the very little time I draw things i see in front of me & am in the process of illustrating a series of illustrations around my baby & me. The quite naptime when the shussher is on loop, I sip my coffee while doodling next to my sleeping child. This little “ME TIME” helps me stay positive even when I’m tired.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Rasika Ashwin born ‘n’ bought up in India & currently living in metro Atlanta with my husband & our lovely 6 month old baby boy. I do post all my fresh designs & work on Instagram on my page ” cocorosha_artroom”.

After a good maternity rest, I am slowly getting back to pitching my creative portfolio for art licensing, royalty & buyouts with companies & my focus is kids products & apperals. Being said that, all the surface patterns, spot illustrations & handpainted products from my portfolio are available for art licensing. Recently, a children’s playmat company licensend a pattern for one of their best selling playmat size, helping me move my brand upwards to build my portfolio into kids products.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Show up reguraly. Respect time – my & others. Eat healthy

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am looking to collaborate with children centered brands – apperals, toys, sufrace patterns for playmats, stuffies, illustrations for pitcure books/board book project & any new product that is introduced, My art style is kid friendly, cutesy & colorful so that is pretty suitable for children’s brands & projects. Though I would love to partner with big & small – local & global brands, it would be so good if I get a chance to work for eco-friendly products & nature inspired ones.
If this interests any brand/editor/writer, I would love to get an email to [email protected] or DM to my instagram account : https://www.instagram.com/cocorosha_artroom/
