Meet Robert Mahor

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Robert Mahor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Robert, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic is a product of both the hardships and the victories I have gone through in life. I believe I have had my fair share of ups and downs in my quest for success. It may sound cliche, but it has truly been quiet an adventure while we really have no idea of where life takes us, one can only hold onto his values and principles.

Looking back, I remember how my mother used to share her stories as our source of inspiration. She grew up having to be the bread winner of the family and, at a very young age, she worked hard to achieve such expectation. Through it all, my mother has always reminded herself to be grateful for any and all opportunities that land on her hand. Similarly, I have always strived to live by the same principles. And until now, I can say that this is what has greatly influenced and shaped my core.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At Dreams & Bubbles, we create stunning balloon garlands, elaborate backdrops, and more. What started as a simple hobby soon ignited a deep creative passion in me, leading to the birth of this business. I take immense pride in being part of your special moments and love bringing joy and excitement through my balloon art. For me, it’s not just about crafting beautiful pieces; it’s about providing a personalized experience that makes every event unique. This commitment is what makes Dreams & Bubbles stand out and transforms each occasion into a memorable journey.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say three key qualities really shaped my journey. First, creativity has been crucial. It’s what fueled my passion for balloon art and allowed me to constantly come up with new, exciting designs. My advice? Embrace your creativity and experiment often. Keep a collection of your ideas and surround yourself with other creative people who can offer feedback and inspiration.

Second, adaptability has played a huge role. The event decor world is always changing, and being flexible helped me stay relevant and handle unexpected challenges. To develop this skill, stay updated on trends and be open to learning new things. Regularly check in on your business and be willing to adjust based on feedback.

Finally, customer focus has been essential. Understanding what clients want and building strong relationships made a big difference. My tip here is to communicate clearly with your clients and listen carefully to their needs. Personalizing their experience will not only make them happy but also encourage them to come back and recommend you to others.

For anyone starting out, honing these qualities will set you up for success. Remember, it takes time and effort, so stay patient and keep pushing forward.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Being overwhelmed, I believe, is a natural human response. If anything, I take it as a signal for me to slow things down and get some perspective. I also sometimes consider it to come from my desire to do well and deliver– and that’s normal for me. But at times when I couldn’t manage this desire, I would always seek for advice from my friends and family as to how I can cope with the frustration that may come along with it. And I think that is important. To have people around you who will support you and help you get yourself back when you start to feel lost or redirected.
