Hi Rotimi , thank you so much for agreeing to open up about a sensitive and personal topic like being fired or laid-off. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in layoffs recently and so your insight and experience with overcoming being let go is relevant to so many in the community.

Getting laid off was definitely a tough moment, but it ended up being a turning point for me. I had already been doing creative work on the side, but I was playing it safe. The layoff forced me to really ask myself if I believed in what I was building.
During that time, I actually had about 90 days to try and find another role internally, but something just didn’t sit right with me. There was this Bible verse that kept coming to mind, Revelation 3:8, “I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut.” That really stuck with me. It made me feel like the path I was supposed to take was already in front of me, I just had to walk through it.
So I decided to go all in.
I started taking my craft and my business more seriously, investing in my skills, building relationships, and treating every opportunity like it mattered. It wasn’t always easy, but each project gave me more confidence and momentum.
Looking back, that moment pushed me into becoming a full-time entrepreneur. What felt like a setback at the time actually became what actually propelled R7 Studios to what it is today.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m the founder of R7 Studios, a full-service media company focused on photography, videography, live production, and branding. At our core, we help individuals, businesses, and organizations tell their stories in a way that feels real, intentional, and impactful.
What makes it special to me is that we’re not just creating content, we’re capturing moments that matter. Whether it’s a wedding, a nonprofit campaign, or a corporate event, there’s always a deeper story behind it. Being able to bring that story to life and create something people can feel, not just watch, is what excites me the most.

I also love the range of people we get to work with. One day we might be documenting a major milestone in someone’s life, and the next we’re helping an organization communicate their mission to the world. That balance keeps the work meaningful and constantly evolving.

As a brand, R7 Studios is built on the idea of “Sound. Vision. Impact.” Everything we do is centered around creating experiences and visuals that leave a lasting impression.

Right now, I’m really focused on expanding the company beyond just services and building more of an ecosystem, things like client experiences, educational content, and new creative offerings that continue to push storytelling forward.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say three things made the biggest difference in my journey: consistency, adaptability, and relationship-building.
Consistency was everything early on. Even when things were slow or uncertain, I kept showing up, creating, improving, and putting myself out there. A lot of people stop too early, but the ones who stick with it long enough start to see the results compound.

Adaptability was just as important. In this field, things are always changing, whether it’s technology, trends, or client needs. Being able to learn quickly, pivot when necessary, and stay open to growth helped me stay relevant and continue to evolve.

And then relationship-building. Almost every opportunity I’ve had came through people, not just what I knew, but who I connected with and how I showed up for them. Treating people well, delivering quality work, and being someone others can trust goes a long way.

For anyone early in their journey, I’d say focus on mastering those three areas. Stay consistent even when it’s not glamorous, be willing to learn and adjust, and genuinely invest in people, not just for opportunity, but for connection. If you do that over time, things start to open up in ways you can’t always predict.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Atomic Habits shifted the way I think about growth and discipline. One of the biggest takeaways for me was that success isn’t about big, sudden changes, it’s about small, consistent actions done over time. That really changed how I approached building my business. Instead of chasing quick wins, I focused on improving daily, whether that was refining my craft, learning something new, or showing up consistently for my clients.

Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter gave me a different kind of perspective, more around mindset, strategy, and self-awareness. One thing that stood out was the importance of knowing when to pivot and how to move with intention, not just effort. It reinforced the idea that working hard is important, but working smart, building systems, and understanding people is what really helps you grow long term.

Together, those books helped me balance discipline with strategy. One taught me how to build momentum through consistency, and the other taught me how to think bigger and move more intentionally as I scale.
