We were lucky to catch up with Sevan Minaskanian recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sevan, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
A bridge haunted my dreams for years, but I never knew why. Until I visited Vail, Colorado, and heard the water’s call. I followed the sound to a corner where the bridge awaited me. I crossed the street and looked down at the river, flowing through the forest and the houses. I felt a bond with the bridge, a mystery in my heart. And then I felt my father, who had left this world too soon. I searched for him in vain, hoping to see his face again. I returned home with tears and questions. A year later, he came to me in a dream. He asked me why I was not writing my story, the one I had always wanted to tell. He said he knew my thoughts and feelings, and he was proud of me. He said he saw me on the bridge, crying for him, and he was there with me. He gave me his gift of writing, and his spirit’s support.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m blessed with a wonderful husband and two adorable kids, but I also have another passion: writing romance novels. Even though my background is in Dental Technician, I always dreamed of becoming a published author. That’s why I wrote “Winter Time”, the first book of the “Winter Saga” trilogy. It’s a YA fiction teen romance that appeals to anyone who loves a good old fashion love story. The book follows Victoria Evans, a seemingly perfect teenager who hides a dark secret from everyone. Her life changes when she meets William Winter, a handsome and mysterious boy from England.
Victoria Evans has it all: she is lovable, wealthy, and beautiful. But behind her flawless facade, she suffers from the bullying and cruelty of her classmates at St. Paul’s private high school in Magnolia Springs, California. She escapes into fantasies of romance, forests, movies, and family.
Victoria feels trapped until she convinces her friends to join her on a winter forest trip. She is not thrilled when William Winter, a stranger from England, tags along. But as they spend time together in the snow, Victoria discovers that William shares her love of the forest and her secret. Is William Winter the key to her happiness and freedom?
I’m currently working on the second book of the “Winter Saga”, called “Winter Love”, which will be out soon
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1- Discover the place where your creativity flows and your story comes alive, whether it’s on your kitchen table or a secluded getaway.
2- Never be without a phone or a paper, so you can capture the spark of inspiration, jot it down and polish it later.
3- Self-publishing is a challenging and fulfilling adventure, so you need to be ready to take care of everything from start to finish. I learned how to turn myself from an unknown to a successful author who draws in readers and fans who care more about the story than the way it was published.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
As a new author, I faced the daunting challenge of finding a literary agent. I learned that this is a widespread issue for many aspiring writers, and that’s why many opt to self-publish their books. Self-publishing was my solution to this problem, but I still hope for more literary agents who will champion new authors in their publishing journey. With this, I would like to welcome literary agents to get in touch with me and explore possibilities.
