We were lucky to catch up with Taris Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taris, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I’ve found my purpose by continuing the activities that I love doing. And also through some trial and error. I’ve always had a connection to art, but it wasn’t until Middle school that I would find my medium—graphic design. For years I was a go-to person for fun edits and MySpace page customizations. Little did I realize, I was drawn to these for a bigger purpose— this was the beginning of my training! In 2017, I began my personal YouTube journey. By 2020, I realized that I actually loved the video editing process. That’s when my family actually pointed out that I could offer that as a service. 5 years later, here I am! Doing what I love. The cool part is that I’m still discovering my full purpose. But because of my close walk with Jesus, I’m guided every step of the way. And I do mean EVERY step!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a social media manager (SMM), I assist my clients in growing their presence on a variety of social media platforms. Smith Transition Productions LLC is special because every case is treated like it is my own. Many of my clients come to me weary and overwhelmed. I work closely with clients to ensure that what we put out the best possible quality to promote their business. I’m known for going the extra mile, and I’m proud of it. Especially when we see the growth in those traffic and sales.
In 2025, I will be launching my Social Media Masterclass. It is FULL of resources, tips and actionable advice for anyone who wants to grow their brand on social media but doesn’t know how or where to begin. Thanks to our sponsors, we included a complimentary 60-minute consultation for the first 10 people to sign up for this course. This course is for the beginners, intermediates and the experts. I’m so excited to share this wealth of knowledge with you all!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Confidence is key. Starting out I had to overcome Imposter Syndrome because I felt like I hadn’t had enough experience to make a lasting impression on clients. Thankfully, I had some really great clients that were patient with me and also helped recognize my potential. Secondly, being open to healthy criticism and the fact that you don’t have all the answers will open the door for many great opportunities in business and life. Lastly, you have to love what you do! Life is difficult enough, adding a business is even more tiring work. But if you are called to it, then I believe you are built for it. On my trying days, I cling to the fact that I get to do what I have loved doing for majority of my life and make money while doing so. It’s all about your perspective!

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing that my parents have done is letting me try new things uninhibited and without judgment, all while maintaining structure and order. When I was in college, I experienced a lot of ebbs and flows, some of which were just too difficult to explain to anyone in my then circle—”growing pains,” if you will.
I remember one day when I was at an old job, having one of the worst days possible. I called my mom to express how overwhelmed I was. Not long after, my parents pulled up to my job, and I stepped outside to chat with them briefly. They listened, affirmed, and encouraged me. Without bashing anyone, my dad calmly told me that this job would be a stepping stone in my life, while my mom offered comfort and reminded me of my worth. I soon left the job, but I carry all of the lessons they’ve imparted with me.
Not only are my parents great examples of what it means to be good human beings, but they have exemplified what it means to work hard. They don’t just tell me to not give up; they show me how to keep fighting.
