Today, we’d like to introduce you to Luis G. Juanes. Luis was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Iciar Vega de Seoane.
Luis, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After obtaining a degree in Physics many years ago, I decided that research was not my place. Science fascinates me, but I discovered that my real passion is filmmaking. So I was lucky enough to study cinema and to be able to work in it, but without ever abandoning science.Nowadays I work at Filmociencia, an audiovisual production company created together with my partner, Paloma Banderas, which builds bridges between the world of research and the general public by making scientific audiovisuals and documentaries. We work directly with institutions, companies and researchers in almost all areas of science who want to spread their work. In each project we always carry out in-depth research to be able to make audiovisual pieces that are rigorous but with a cinematographic approach that captivates the audience. But I have also had the opportunity to work on feature films and documentaries. The next one is an own production that we are going to premiere in cinemas in 2025! Unfortunately, at the moment we can’t give any further information (keep up to date on our Instagram!).
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
In the last years I have had the opportunity to make several audiovisual projects for television and cinema. In the field of fiction, I am the screenwriter of the feature film Europa (2017), selected at festivals such as Thessaloniki International Film Festival or the Moscow International Film Festival. Within the documentary scene, I have worked on several feature films, including Off Earth or Behind Lucy, a documentary that delves into a NASA mission. I currently run my own audiovisual production company, Filmociencia, and collaborate as a screenwriter and documentary filmmaker with other production companies.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Iciar Vega de Seoane and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Iciar.
Iciar Vega de Seoane is for me an inexhaustible source of inspiration. She has taught me that the most unsuspected and strange place can be full of beauty. As an artist she has a clarity and lucidity that fills with light the darkest corners of the soul. She also has an innate strength that makes her continue in her work as a photographer in an unstoppable way, like the water of the river that cannot stop its flow. Besides being her client, I have had the good fortune to participate as a model in many of her works, where I have seen the way she works. She is direct, she has a very personal vision of things, she has very clear ideas and an overflowing passion. Iciar also works in my production company, Filmociencia, where, among many other things, she has advised us with her unic point of view as an expert photographer.
