The Power of Persistence: Overcoming Haters and Doubters

Having hates is an inevitable part of any bold journey – everyone who has made a difference in the world has had doubters and critics. As natural as haters might be, in the age of social media it’s become harder and hard to ignore them – and so we asked some brilliant creatives and entrepreneurs to tell us how they deal with haters.

The great Malcolm X once said, “If you have no critics, you’ll likely have no success.” Like him, I’ve said, “If you have no haters, you’ll likely have no success. Haters are very harmful and unfairly critical. They write unpleasant things about us and harshly criticize our achievements. Haters often don’t offer reason or logic for their negativity. They exhibit a style of thinking based on how they’re feeling, and that feeling is often jealousy. This leads to them spreading negative opinions that are based on emotions and not evidence. They have no substance to their words. All they have to offer is disrespect, mockery, and character attacks. Read more>>

Hello! My name is Ashley and I am an aspiring entrepreneur. I chose this question because of the industry in which I chose to pursue a business. First, Ill give you some background. I am 39 years old, and I have my Bachelors degree in Business Management. I have worked in the restaurant industry since I have been 15 years old. Promoted to GM of a small fast food chain at 19, I used my work ethic to earn management positions at different restaurants. Read more>>

I’ve always had the mindset that if you tell me something isn’t possible, I will not only show you that it is possible, but I’ll show you a better version than you could have ever imagined. The person who will put you down for trying and pushing forward in your passions is never putting their passions forward. I find a lot of people harbor jealousy in the form of hate towards people who are successful in ways that they could never be. It’s always funny to me when someone will make a snarky comment about my playing/video/success, but then when I look at their page, they have seemingly never tried at all to do what I do. Persisting in the face of haters and naysayers really comes down to staying connected to your purpose. When you’re clear about what you’re working toward, it’s easier to tune out the opinions of people who don’t understand your journey. I’ve learned not to take advice from people who don’t have the life I’m striving for—you can’t let someone who hasn’t walked your path tell you where to go. At the end of the day, the only person who truly has your best interest at heart is yourself—and for me, that’s also trusting in God. Read more>>

I feel like hate comes from good ole competition, someone not being able to accept someone is better than them, and sometimes It can also be comparing their lifestyle and being jealous. So if thats the case then it means I’m definitely doing something right. At the beginning and end of the day Im proud of my God given ability so I’ve learned It’s nothing to ever be ashamed of. I believe deep down that the internal comparison when artists collaborate can sometimes create underlying tension as well which makes them less receptive to support you or acknowledge you even when you do it for them. I also feel that being an artist since I was young, starting with drawing & photography, definitely helped me be myself a lot more in my music. Read more>>

I simply keep on moving. Not everyone understands boudoir. Boudoir is not for everyone. But I know so many who love it, understand it and support it. They are who keeps me going. I enjoy being around people and clients who appreciate the art of intimate portraits and the magic of empowerment. The energy this brings makes it easy to overcome the hate and negativity that is constantly thrown towards boudoir from everywhere. Read more>>

Spite is a powerful motivator. But as powerful as it is, it will never grant to gratification because the naysayers and haters cannot be pleased. Even if you prove them wrong, you will never do enough or create something beautiful enough to appease them. Once you realize this the only conclusion to beating them is to create something so beautiful that haters become delusional to everyone around them. But, more importantly, you do not create things for the haters, you do not persist in spite of them, it is better to create for those who support and to do it for them. I recently was a guest at a convention where 6 years ago my haters openly mocked my dreams. Are they eating crow? No, they don’t care. But the people who support me do, and are excited by my success. So I persist by putting the haters out of my mind. Read more>>
