We’ve been working on our publication and platform for almost a decade because we deeply believe that the world will be a far more empathetic and collaborative place if we all had the ability to know each other’s stories. The past decade has brought unimaginable challenges along the way, but we persevere because we believe this is mission worth never giving up on. We often are inspired by the folks we’ve featured and their commitment to their respective missions and so we asked some of them to talk to us about this very topic and have share some responses below.

That could be a very long list! But for now, suffice to say the project that’s captured my attention these days is my book in progress. This manuscript weaves together two parallel stories – my 900 mile hike alongside how I came to be a death doula several years prior. Read more>>

I am currently committed to a few projects. One, is building up my artist persona as myself, not as the editor of Canto Cutie. I want to create and think for myself, and not just in support of the artists I publish. So that’s one endeavor I am committed to. I am also committed to the podcast project I mentioned earlier. I’m deeply committed to advising the men who hold immense power but are quietly exhausted by the self-sacrifice that comes with it. The ones who’ve built everything they thought they wanted, yet still feel a gap because there’s no real space for the multidimensional parts of who they are. These are men who are artists at their core, even if they’re CEOs or investors. Read more>>

Alexandra: I’m committed to embodying rest and giving others the tools and space to prioritize their well being. Rest is revolutionary, and by continually prioritizing self-care we are empowered. I believe that rest is our birthright, it has been made a luxury because of the hustle culture that surrounds us, but I want to empower others, especially women to rest. Read more>>

I have always believed that my purpose as an artist is to inspire people to see the beauty in humanity despite our tragic nature. As I quickly learned in art school, postmodernism is the current movement, which basically means that the art world believes there is no collective truth or concept of what is good vs. bad, beautiful vs. ugly. I’m committed to the preservation of 2200 Studios. This place is a rock and roll time capsule. Songwriter advocacy. American songwriters are under ridiculous restrictions set by Congress in 1909 that ensure inadequate royalty payments. NSAI and myself during my nearly thirty years as Executive Director have changed some of them, but we still do not get to negotiate the value of songs in the free market. We will NEVER stop trying to achieve that goal. Read more>>

Both of my magazines were born from a deep desire to provide accessible, inspiring support. Grievers need resources that meet them where they are and remind them that healing is possible. We are what we eat—and also what we read and listen to. Reading about people who walk the walk, not just talk the talk, is a major step toward healing and growth. Read more>>
